From Brazil to Beauty Entrepreneur

At the age of 14, I embarked on a monumental journey from Brazil to the United States, a decision that would change my life forever. The catalyst for this transition was my brother's health. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at just 13, he needed specialized medical care that was unavailable in Brazil. My mother had already moved to New York City to support his treatment, and when she invited me to join her, I knew I had to take that leap of faith.

“LIFE IS HAPPENING FOR ME NOT TO ME”

Leaving behind my friends, family, and the comforts of home was daunting, but it was a necessary step toward a new beginning. I enrolled in Livingston  Middle School and eventually graduated from Hanover Park High School. My early years in the U.S. were filled with challenges, but they also ignited my determination to succeed.

Exploring Different Paths After high school, I initially pursued a degree in criminal justice at Morris County College. However, after a year, I realized it wasn’t my passion. I then moved to Vancouver, Canada, to support my husband’s career. At just 21, I found myself married and navigating new responsibilities. Upon returning to the U.S., I attempted to pursue hospitality management, but this path also left me unfulfilled. 

​I realized I wasn’t passionate about traditional college education. After much contemplation, I decided to take a break from school to figure out my true calling. It was during this reflective period that I stumbled upon the idea of attending beauty school one late night while watching Tabatha  Take Over on Bravo TV.

 Embracing the Beauty Industry

At 24, I enrolled in beauty school, ready to embrace my newfound passion. By this time, I was already a mother to a two-year-old and needed to balance my studies with family life. I chose part-time schooling to ensure I could spend quality time with my little family. Knowing that I wanted to expand my family, I decided to have another child while still in school.
Once I reached 600 hours of training, I began my journey as an assistant in a large salon. It was here that I truly fell in love with the beauty industry. I dedicated long hours to proving myself and understanding the intricacies of becoming a hairstylist.

​Finding My Niche

Within a year of assisting, I became a junior stylist focusing on blowouts. However, I yearned for more than just that. I wanted to create makeovers and build genuine connections with clients. I transitioned to a smaller salon in Parsippany, where I could focus on growing my clientele.

While I was happy working on commission, I felt a growing desire to own my business. As suite salons became legal in New Jersey, I took the bold step of opening my own space in Wayne Sola Studios suite one. At the same time I also received amazing news. I was having my third child.  After about a year, I expanded to a much bigger  location in Denville with a partner. Fortunately this partnership didn’t work out, prompting me to downsize and move back to a suite space in Madison, New Jersey.

The Birth of La Vida Salon and Spa

This period has truly been pivotal for my growth as a leader and salon owner. I took the time to reflect on my past decisions and focused on cultivating a strong mindset. It was during this transformative phase that I rebranded my business, leading to the birth of La Vida Salon. As I approach two years of operation, I’m genuinely excited about the progress we’ve made and what lies ahead.

Since opening La Vida Salon and Spa, I’ve also launched a small boutique space called House of Vida in collaboration with a dear friend and client. This venture has allowed us to create a unique environment that blends beauty and lifestyle, offering our clients an even more personalized experience.

In early 2024, I took another step in my journey by starting the Fearless Power Podcast with another close friend. This podcast is dedicated to empowering women and embracing the lessons we encounter in both business and everyday life. Through our discussions, we aim to inspire and uplift listeners, sharing insights and experiences that resonate with our journey as women navigating the complexities of work and home. 

I’m thrilled about these new initiatives and the opportunity to connect with more people. The future is bright, and I can’t wait to see how we continue to grow and empower others along the way!

In 2022, I began offering educational classes, and I’m currently focused on rebuilding that aspect of my business. Looking forward to 2025, I have big ideas to further innovate and impact the beauty industry. 

A Journey of Growth and Leadership

Reflecting on my journey, I see how my life experiences have shaped me into a better leader and mentor. I love my current space and am dedicated to nurturing my team of stylists. As we near our two-year anniversary in July 2025, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. 

However, I must also take a moment to express my gratitude to those who have supported me along the way. I want to thank everyone who has followed me throughout this journey. Those who have been there, going above and beyond—you know who you are. Your encouragement, belief, and support have played a significant role in my growth and success, and I am truly grateful for each and every one of you. Together, we continue to build something beautiful, and I look forward to what lies ahead!
