MEET Allison

Allison Bock grew up in Hardyston, New Jersey, and has been immersed in the world of hair since earning her cosmetology license from Sussex County Technical School. Now a talented stylist at La Vida Salon. Allison’s work is fueled by the stories, life changes, and personalities of her clients. “They inspire me to keep going and to keep learning,” she says.                           
Allison’s journey to beauty wasn’t defined by a single “aha” moment, but she credits one teacher in particular, Ms. Wakefoose, for helping her develop a deep passion for the field. While she had always worked in salons during high school, it wasn’t until college that she truly embraced cosmetology as her professional path. “Learning the true nature of the field and the people allowed me to be confident in my decision to pursue hair professionally,” she explains.

​Her love for the industry is rooted in connection. While Allison enjoys all aspects of the craft—from cutting, color transformations. her true passion lies in building confidence. “I am here to make sure my clients are leaving in love with their new look,” she says. Whether it’s a lived-in color or a bold blonde transformation, Allison’s strength lies in understanding her clients’ needs and bringing their visions to life.

BEYOND THE CHAIR

​Beyond the chair, Allison thrives on the conversations with her clients. “The crazier the life update, the better,” she laughs. The creative process is a bonus, but the real joy comes from the relationships she builds every day. Her “why” in the beauty industry is simple: the people. She’s inspired by the talented team of stylists around her and motivated by the constant evolution of the field.

Looking ahead, Allison sees herself continuing to grow and master her craft. In five years, she hopes to be at the top of her field, delivering the looks her clients dream of and guiding the next generation of stylists through mentorship and education.

​Allison’s story is also one of versatility. After cosmetology school, she pursued higher education, earning a BA in psychology and preparing to attend Seton Hall University in August for a master’s in Speech-Language Pathology. Reflecting on her early experiences, she admits, “I didn’t really know if I wanted to be a hair stylist at first. But now I realize how fun and creative salon life truly is!”

Finding La Vida Salon

Allison discovered La Vida Salon & Spa through her friend Theresa, also known as Coach T. Theresa, a close friend of owner Luana, helped Allison set up her interview at the salon. For Allison, La Vida is more than just a workplace—it’s an environment and a safe space where growth and learning happen every day. She appreciates the camaraderie among the team, noting that every member has a way of making clients feel their best while sharing laughter along the way.

ROLLER BLOWOUTS: 

1. Add (Kenra blowout spray) heat protectant and volume products (Kenra volume mist for finer hair and mouse for courser hair) 

2. Rough dry the hair as much as possible 

3. Over direct everything to the front of the head 

4. Split hair into sections and make sure the section is completely dry. Wrap each section under and secure with clips or roller 

5. For the top two sections rollers are the best for holding volume. 

6. Once each section is complete and rolled add texture spray 

7. UNWRAP 

8. Add a dry oil and brush through

Sleek bun

1. Section Bangs: Clip your bangs away from the rest of your hair.
2. Gather Hair: Create a high ponytail, ensuring there’s no part, and smooth the hair at the top and bottom.
3. Part Bangs: Once the ponytail is secure, part your bangs in the middle and smooth them back.
4. Add Bangs to Ponytail: Incorporate your bangs into the ponytail using an additional hair tie.
5. Slick Back: Use an oil or leave-in conditioner to smooth everything down, as it works better than hairspray or gel.
6. Create a Bun (Optional): Twist the ponytail into a bun if you prefer that style.
7. Secure with Hairspray: Finish by applying hairspray to tame any flyaways and hold the look in place.
